Yesterday I finally sat down and started to prepare my manuscript for submission. The final contract hasn’t arrived yet, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to have everything done and ready to go. Writing the Acknowledgements page was tougher than I thought; I wrote one last summer, when I first self-published Wish. But so much has happened since then, and there are now so many more people to thank! The support of friends and complete strangers has just been amazing…last night I got this lovely email from an established author on the west coast:
Hi! I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much I loved A Wish After Midnight. When I saw the great review on the Reading in Color blog, I knew I had to read it; I’m a huge historical fiction fan, and I thought the premise–going from present day to past–was really intriguing. Once I started the book, I was hooked. Genna is a wonderful character. I fell in love with her deep heart and her resilience, and she has stayed with me long after I finished the last page. I’ve never read a novel set in NY during the Civil War, and you truly brought that time and place alive. The way Genna’s and Judah’s relationship evolves, and how it’s affected by their radically different experiences of that time, was especially moving.
Thank you for this beautiful book. Count me a new fan! I’m very much looking forward to the sequel, to find out what happens next in Genna’s and Judah’s journey.
It’s wonderful when a reader feels so moved by your book, they send you a personal message like that. I guarantee you I will be reading and reviewing this author’s book soon; right now I’m reading Sammy & Juliana in Hollywood. I have some errands to run today ~ tomorrow Shadra and I head to Baltimore for their book festival, and I need to laminate the adinkra symbols I use for my presentation. Enjoy September’s last weekend…it’s almost October!
