Is this better? Susan at Color Online just let me know that Bloomsbury is switching the cover for Justine Larbalestier’s YA novel, Liar. Find out for yourself at Publisher’s Weekly. The article says a cover has not been selected, but this image appears next to the old cover featuring a white model. If the main character is dark-skinned, with “nappy” hair and the ability to pass for a boy…what do YOU think?
Stop by Justine’s blog to hear her express her point of view. SHE is the model I admire most…when you’re arbitrarily assigned unearned privilege, you often can’t reject it outright, but you sure can SHARE THAT PRIVILEGE WITH OTHERS…I’m grateful for her efforts to swing the spotlight my way and onto other authors and bloggers of color.
